| The CRYSTAL-FACE
Science Team (ST) is composed of selected investigators (Pis and
Co-Is), Project Scientists, and project meteorologists. Program and Project Managers
are ex-officio members of the ST. Science Team members are listed on the CRYSTAL-FACE
web page, http://www.espo.nasa.gov/crystalface/people.html.
The main ST responsibilities are: experimental investigation, modeling and analysis
of data, and publication and presentation of results. Measurements and/or
data products acquired or developed as part of the July 1 - July 31, 2002 mission
will be archived in accordance with the data exchange plan on the CRYSTAL-FACE
webpage, http://espoarchive.nasa.gov/info/crystalf/dataex_plan.html.
All members of the ST will have free access to and use of all archived data products.
The rapid exchange of data assists in-field collaborations, identifies instrument
problems via inter-comparisons, and helps flight planning by identifying new and
interesting geophysical problems. Data acquired during the field deployment will
be electronically exchanged and archived within 24 hours after collection, and
will constitute a preliminary archive. Some exceptions for unique operation will
be granted on a case-by-case basis by project management. Non-electronic exchange
will also be dealt with on a case-by-case basis subject to the approval of project
management. A CRYSTAL-FACE data workshop is tentatively scheduled for late
February/early March 2003. An aim of this workshop will be to generate a collegial
usage of the data, exchange ideas, and to define the nature of publications to
follow from this campaign. Data discussions will concentrate on a few specific
case studies. The case studies will be decided shortly after the mission by the
Project Scientists, with input from the ST. Final data for the data workshop case studies will be archived
before February 2003, and final versions of the complete data
sets
will be archived before 31 May 2003. The data sets will be freely
available to all CRYSTAL-FACE science team members from the
archives. Prior to public release, data will not be provided
to persons outside of the CRYSTAL-FACE science teams without
the
expressed approval of that data set's PI. All archived data
will
be made available to the public on 31 July 2003.
First publication of results from the CRYSTAL-FACE missions will probably be via
a special issue (e.g., JAS , JGR). Manuscripts will be submitted for publication
within 18 months after the completion of the field deployments. PIs/Co-Is responsible
for generating a measurement or a data product must be offered the right of co-authorship.
This right should be used only if the contribution is essential. Individual
exceptions to the publication process may be granted by a committee of scientists.
This committee will be comprised of the platform Lead Scientists and the Project
Scientists. Presentations in public meetings may be made subject to approval by
the co-authors. In general, descriptions of the whole project will note that this
program is a coordinated action of NASA, NOAA, DOE, ONR and NSF. Major press releases
on findings from the joint measurements will be agreed upon among Program Managers
within these agencies. |
